Creating the Critical Classroom: Digital Media & Filmmaking with H.S. Youth

Short Description: 

Teachers are opening up their instructional toolboxes to include video and other multimedia platforms in their classrooms. Join filmmaker/media educators Justice Whitaker and Lindsay Fauntleroy as they present methods and practices used to create successful video projects with NYC public high school students. Discover how technology courses can explore themes of personal identity, community activism, social justice and the role students can play in creating a sustainable community. Short student-produced films will be screened and media-based curricula will be shared with participants.

Justice Whitaker, an alumni of NYU, has been working the last three years in media education at The Green School. He is the co-founder of The Five.12 Collective, an artists network which focuses on using music & film to increase cross cultural awareness and address social issues in our global community.

Lindsay Fauntleroy
Presenter Two Info: 

Lindsay has a Master's degree in Media Sociology at NYU. She’s passionate about the intersection between culture, art, and social justice across visual mediums. Currently, as Director of External Education Programs at Educational Video Center, she works extensively with teaching artists and educators to integrate educational theory into practical application.
