Handala takes aim: Who defines your issues? Arab Women Active in the Arts and Media; AWAAM initiated a public discourse to reclaim the term “Intifada.” Learn how to use textile stenciling as a tool to promote a social justice campaign. Yasmin Madadi
Presenter One Info: 

Yasmin Madadi is a poet and media maker who has lead youth workshops in creative writing, t-shirt printing and radio documentary making both in Brooklyn, New York and the Bay Area, California. Prior to her work with AWAAM, she conducted youth outreach for June Jordan's Poetry for the People. Yasmin has also worked as a reporter and researcher for news sources such as Free Speech Radio News, Rolling Stone and The Nation Magazine.

Laimah Osman
Presenter Two Info: 

Laimah Osman is a multi-media artivist (artist + activist) living in Brooklyn. Her visual media work includes web, printmaking, drawing and collage. She runs AWAAM's design mentorship and serves on the organization's board. Currently, she is working with Sisterfire NYC (a local branch of INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence) and Azad (liberation) Design.

Mona Eldahry
Presenter Three Info: 

Mona Eldahry is Founding Director of AWAAM: Arab Women Active in the Arts and Media. Her background is in video production, live sound and popular education. She works to empower community members with the technical and community organizing skills necessary to affect social change.
