Using Media to Change Policy

Submitted by jenstearns on Sat, 01/19/2008 - 11:45am
Short Description:

The CIAD Media Team will demonstrate effective media organizing techniques developed by adult home residents over the past four years ,including two projects which have led to specific policy reforms. In TALKING TO THE INSPECTORS, residents used skits and peer-to-peer interviews to show how residents experience adult home inspections. This video was shown to the Department of Health, leading to improvements. A second project, LOOKING FOR A HOME, used public forums structured for video to simultaneously organize and generate media on the need for a mental health housing waiting list. This project has resulted in the reintroduction this year of the Housing Wait List Bill. Contact jenstearns@ciadny.org
