The organizing collective of the NYC Grassroots Media Conference wanted to approach organizing the 2008 conference in a new and dynamic way. In order to create deeper connections with some of the organizations who have participated in our past programs and projects, we invited a select number to participate in the organizing effort - helping to envision new workshop offerings, review proposal submissions, assist in strategic outreach and help shape the planning effort. Our goal is to ultimately create a stronger, more cohesive and more effective event.
We specifically reached out to groups that:
Understand that media is a political issue
Share our belief that reforming our media system is a crucial step in realizing social justice goals
Expressed interest in participating in community dialogue and networking efforts to raise awareness about these issues and strategize solutions
Were willing to devote resources (i.e. time, outreach, publicity, etc.) to promote the goals of the NYCGMC and participate in our conferences and events.
We are pleased to announce the 2008 partnering organizations:
Art for Change
Go Left
Gotham Gazette
IPA-NY
Left Turn Magazine
Manhattan Neighborhood Network
MayFirst-People Link Technology Collective
NYC Indymedia
Radical Reference
