This site was created to build connections between the social justice and independent media communities. Responding to the repeated request for tools to link groups and keep the NYC community informed about ongoing projects, the organizers of the NYC Grassroots Media Conference designed this website to create a virtual space to gain skills, exchange resources, coordinate action around media policy issues and facilitate media coverage of social justice events in NYC.
As it is our goal to organize media and social justice groups to avoid the duplication of efforts; our site pulls resources from various local groups doing important work and offers a platform to promote these resources. Please feel free to submit your own tools here.
This site is intended to be an open forum for its users. In order to create an environment that is inclusive of the diverse communities represented in our city, the NYC the Grassroots Media Coalition requests your cooperation in respecting the following ground rules:
-
RESPECT
This space is meant to be inclusive and open for all participants to express themselves freely, however: posts that contain generalized and negative assertions about any race, nation, creed, class, ethnic group, gender or sexual orientation, will not be tolerated and will be deleted by our collective's web-managers.
-
KEEP IT CLEAN
Since the community using our site includes an intergenerational audience, we request you refrain from using profanity or posting sexually explicit content. We reserve the right to moderate all postings.
-
NO SPAM PLEASE
There are many opportunities to post announcements about your events and organization on the Compass for Change collective calendar. We ask that you register your organization through Compass for Change and on our website as a means to promote your work.
-
PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC
We encourage you to post your own content, lesson plans and other information. In order to keep the site easy to navigate and to carry content relevant to our community's needs we ask that you stay on topic.
Should you have material that you would like to add that doesn't fit in with our preexisting framework, please send an email to web@nycgrassrootsmedia.org with suggestions. -
THIS SITE IS FOR NON COMMERCIAL USE ONLY:
We all need to make some money to support our work, but this is not the appropriate place to sell/advertise your stuff for sale.
Thank you in advance for respecting our guidelines and becoming part of the NYC Grassroots Media online community. The NYC Grassroots Media Coalition collective acts as the editorial staff, moderating all submissions before they appear on the website. If you should have any problems or questions about submitting content, please email web@nycgrassrootsmedia.org.
The project was funded by the Funding Exchange Media Justice Fund and implemented in partnership with May First/People Link. Design by Christopher Silas Neal.
